The tallest hill in the Kathmandu Valley, Phulchoki Hill (2,782 meters), is located in the southern section and provides a surprising view of the Himalayas, Warden Woods and Kathmandu Valley. Starting in a small village in Godavari, which is famous for its botanical gardens, it takes you a day to walk through lush green forests that are abundant in wildlife, plants and birds. It is ideal for courageous people looking for a revived migration from the city, enthusiastic of nature, and for those who monitor the bird.
At 2,782 metres, Phulchoki Hill is the highest point in the Kathmandu Valley and offers a varied terrain of rolling hills, lush forests, and expansive vistas. Beginning at Godawari (1,500 m), a verdant region renowned for its botanical gardens, the walk climbs through subtropical to temperate forests that are home to pine, oak and rhododendron trees. At higher elevations, the area sees misty conditions and mild to cool temps. Deer, langurs, leopards, and more than 300 bird species can be seen along the well-marked trails, which wind through natural stone stairs, waterfalls, and a rich biodiversity. Phulchoki is the ideal combination of challenge and natural beauty since hikers may take in breathtaking views of the Langtang, Gauri Shankar, and Everest mountain ranges from the summit.
The name Phulchoki, which translates into “flower hill”, has an important cultural and religious significance. Both pilgrims and locals pray at a minor temple dedicated to Goddess Phulchoki at the peak. During the annual ceremony in March or April, devotees traced the summit in search of blessings. Hindu temples and flags of Buddhist prayers represent the spiritual unity of the region.
