Itinerary

Day 1Kathmandu (1300) -Kerung Border (145 Km) 06-07 hours drive

Drive from Kathmandu to the Kerung Border, the entry point to Tibet, early in the morning. Along the Trishuli River, the trip offers stunning views of terraced farmlands, rivers, rolling green hills, and traditional Nepalese towns. Complete all required procedures at the Nepalese immigration checkpoint after you arrive in Rasuwagadhi, which is the Nepalese side of the border. After that, cross the Friendship Bridge and head to the Chinese immigration office to complete the necessary paperwork to enter Tibet. After the area has been cleared, drive a short distance to Kerung town, which is 2,800 meters above sea level. After arriving, check into your hotel and spend some time unwinding and getting used to the higher altitude.

Day 2 Kerung - Tingri (4300m) – Shigatse (390KM)

Start an exciting journey across the huge and untamed Tibetan plateau, known as the “Roof of the World,” after breakfast. A characteristic Tibetan scenery of high-altitude plains, sweeping valleys, and far-off snowcapped peaks that inspire a sensation of unbounded freedom may be seen during the voyage. Continue your picturesque journey across the highest point on the way to Lhasa, Gyatchu La Pass (5,220m). One of Tibet’s holiest pilgrimage sites is reached by taking the road to Mt. Kailash, which splits off to the west from here.

After descending from the pass, you will reach Gyantse, a medieval town renowned for its fortifications, monasteries, and distinct Tibetan charm. After touring Gyantse, drive on through breathtaking scenery until you arrive at Lhasa, the cultural and spiritual center of Tibet. After arriving, check into your accommodation and spend the evening unwinding and getting used to your surroundings.

Day 3Shigatse – Lhasa (3650m) 260KM

Visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the Panchen Lama’s customary residence, in the morning. One of Tibet’s most significant religious hubs, this magnificent monastery complex was established in 1447 by the first Dalai Lama. It contains enormous statues of Maitreya (the Future Buddha), elaborate chapels, and a lively assembly hall that is alive with monk chanting. Its temples and courtyards provide a window into the history and culture of Tibetan Buddhism spanning millennia.

Continue driving toward Lhasa after the monastery tour, taking in the breathtaking scenery of undulating hills, expansive grasslands, and snow-capped mountains. Check into your hotel when you arrive in Lhasa, such the Hotel Yak, and spend the evening relaxing and getting used to the magical ambiance of Tibet’s sacred capital.

Day 4-5:Sightseeing In Lhasa

Spend two full days exploring the timeless wonders of Lhasa, the spiritual and cultural capital of Tibet.

Visit the Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s holiest temple and a popular destination for Tibetan Buddhist pilgrims, to start your tour. A journey’s high point is its golden canopy and revered statue of Jowo Shakyamuni Buddha. Explore the vibrant Barkhor Bazaar, a busy bazaar and pilgrimage route where you can buy Tibetan goods, watch locals engage in religious kora (circumambulation), and take in the vivid ambiance of the city.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and architectural masterpiece, the Potala Palace is another highlight of your visit. Thousands of chambers filled with chapels, murals, and relics that symbolize Tibet’s rich spiritual legacy may be found in this 13-story fortress-like palace, which was once the Dalai Lama’s winter retreat.

Day 6Lhasa – Gyantse (4300m) 260km

Take in the breathtaking scenery of Tibet over a full day of driving. The trip starts with a picturesque ride over the high passes of Kambala (4,749m) and Karola (5,010m), which both provide expansive views of the Tibetan plateau, rocky mountains, and glaciers. Admire the magnificent Yamdrok-Tso Lake along the way. It is one of Tibet’s holiest lakes and is renowned for its brilliant blue waters that glisten exquisitely against the snow-capped mountains.

You will visit the famous Kumbum Stupa (Gyantse Kumbum), a distinctive multi-tiered stupa adorned with exquisite murals and chapels, as well as the neighboring Phalkor Monastery, an intriguing complex that skillfully combines Tibetan, Chinese, and Nepali architectural styles, once you arrive in the quaint historic town of Gyantse. A profound understanding of Tibet’s creative and spiritual legacy can be gained from these cultural treasures.

Day 7Gyantse to Xegar/Tingri (4200m) 334km

After breakfast, start your picturesque journey from Kerung in the direction of Tingri, a Tibetan plateau town that serves as a gateway to the Himalayas. The trip provides breathtaking vistas of lofty mountain ranges, expansive valleys, and windswept terrain that perfectly encapsulate Tibet’s natural beauty.

At an extra USD 200 per person, an optional trip to Everest Base Camp (EBC) can be organized for those who are interested. A once-in-a-lifetime chance to stand at the base of Mt. Everest (8,848m), the tallest mountain in the world, and take in its breathtaking majesty up close is provided by this side excursion.

After that, proceed to Tingri and spend the night in a basic guesthouse to give yourself time to relax and adjust to the higher elevation.

Day 8Xegar to Kerong Border to Kathmandu 395km

Return to the Nepal-Tibet border by car early in the morning from Lhasa. After you arrive, finish the border procedures and cross to the Nepali side. Continue driving back to Kathmandu from here, where your amazing eight-day Tibet Overland Tour comes to an end.
