Itinerary

Day 1ARRIVE IN PARO AIRPORT (BHUTAN)(B, L, D)

The flight into Bhutan offers one of the most spectacular views of the Himalayan mountain range, including Mount Everest (8,848m) and other towering peaks, weather permitting. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly received by your guide and representative from the agency. From here, enjoy a scenic drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.

  • Arrive at Paro Airport and meet your representative.
  • Scenic drive to Thimphu; weather permitting, see Mt. Everest (8848m) and other Himalayan peaks.
  • Visit Ta Dzong (National Museum) – originally a 17th-century watchtower, now showcasing Bhutanese art, relics, thankas, paintings, and stamps.
  • Explore Tashichho Dzong, the “Fortress of Glorious Religion,” home to the throne room, secretariat, and central monk body.

Day 2IN Thimphu(B/L/D)

After breakfast, begin your day with a visit to the Memorial Chorten, built in 1974 in memory of King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the third King of Bhutan and widely respected as the Father of Modern Bhutan. This beautiful white-washed stupa is one of the most iconic spiritual landmarks in Thimphu and a hub of daily religious activity for locals.

Next, proceed to Changangkha Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in the region, dating back to the 12th century. Perched on a ridge above central Thimphu, it offers panoramic views of the valley and is a popular place for Bhutanese parents to bring newborns for blessings.

  • Visit Memorial Chorten, built in 1974 in honor of King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
  • Explore Changgangkha Lhakhang and Zilukha Nunnery, Thimphu’s largest nunnery.
  • Visit Simtokha Dzong, Bhutan’s first dzong built in 1631, strategically located at the crossroads of western Bhutan.
  • Experience the Weekend Market (Friday–Sunday) for vibrant local crafts, food, and souvenirs.

Day 3THIMPHU TO GANGTEY(B, L, D)

Altitude: 2800m / 9240ft | Drive: 5 hours

  • Drive through Dochula Pass (3140m) with panoramic Himalayan views and 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens built by Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck.
  • Visit Gangtey Goemba, a 17th-century monastery overlooking Phobjikha Valley, winter home of black-necked cranes.

Day 4 GANTEY TO TRONGSA(B, L, D)

Altitude: 2200m / 7260ft | Drive: 5 hours

  • Hike the Gangtey Nature Trail (approx. 2 hours) through pine forests, villages, rivers, and crane roosting grounds, with a visit to the Goemba.
  • Visit Trongsa Museum (Ta Dzong), dedicated to the monarchy’s history and coronation ceremonies.

Day 5TRONGSA – PUNAKHA / WANGDUE (B/L/D)

Altitude: 1350m / 4455ft | Drive: 6 hours

  • Drive to Punakha and visit Punakha Dzong, built in 1637 between the Mo Chu and Pho Chu rivers.
  • Hike to Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility) – approx. 30-minute hike; see traditional phalluses believed to ward off evil spirits.

Overnight: Punakha / Wangdue

Day 6 IN PARO(B, L, D)

Altitude: 2280m / 7524ft | Drive: 4 hours

  • Drive to Paro and visit Rimpung Dzong, a 1644 fortress with striking architecture and ceremonial significance.
  • Explore Kichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, built in the 7th century.
  • Visit Drukyel Dzong (ruins), built in 1649 to commemorate Bhutanese victory over Tibetan invaders; enjoy views of Jhomolhari Mountain (weather permitting).

Day 7PARO – TAKTSANG MONASTERY & FARMHOUSE VISIT (B/L/D)

  • Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) – 800m above the valley, approx. 5 hours round trip. Optional horse ride: USD 25/person.
  • Visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, enjoy hospitality and optionally a hot stone bath (USD 25/person).
  • Evening stroll through Paro town to see local life.
